How to Adapt The New Normal and New Beginnings

With this Corona Pandemic still looming large all over the world, it’s time we embrace the fact that this pandemic and social distancing will be here for some time.

And in addition to this, our reality has changed and we need to still come to terms with it.

Let me say it again –

We are in a new normal!

The new normal maks mandatory | Sumancasm

I don’t want to underplay but most of the things have changed for us, like –

Among many things following are the things which will give us some idea about this new world of order –

Reduced to Almost No Movement

Yes, we are under the impression that we are unable to move or travel to our desired places.

To get your favorite coffee, have lunch or dinner at your desired restaurant. Travel back to your home to your friends and family.

Heightened Uncertainty & Anxiety

Things are incredibly uncertain right now, for all folks which include β€” our health, the health of loved ones, the state of the world, the shaky economy, our individual financial situations.

And that’s just the start of it. All of this uncertainty is triggering feelings of stress, fear, and anxiety in most of the people, in different ways.

Isolated and Closer

For most of the people, the lockdown has instilled a sense of fear and isolated them which has become very hard to handle. But for others, it has served as an opportunity to bond – as they happened to return to their home.

While the others are trying the same by having the phone and video calls, and connecting with others too by other means and making a difference in every way possible.

Feeling overwhelmed

It can definitely be too much for adults and children alike. As we have been accustomed to our outing lifestyle parties. And sudden these changes can make us feel overwhelmed, and can want us to shut down, exit, or avoid.

We usually avoid difficult tasks and look for distractions. Just like we avoid our healthy habits. This is completely normal!

A Sense of Interruption

Many of our daily/weekly habits have come to a standstill or have been interrupted – we are unable to do a lot of things we were used to performing which gives us a feeling of disruption.

Getting Irritated With Others

Stuck with someone willingly or unwillingly over time can cause friction. And that is which can bring up all other issues, and how we respond to them.

Wanting this to end soon

Everyone is getting impatient or is losing their control. It’s hard to accept this new lifestyle, restrictions, etc. And wants to end this soon.

You are certainly experiencing all of these, because each one of us is experiencing the new normal in different ways.

So yes, it’s a new normal.

Now the question you want to ask yourself is, do we resist it or take it up as an opportunity?

We can hate it as much as we don’t like this lockdown period. Totally frustrated about it. That’s one way of going through it.

Another could be to grab this as a wonderful opportunity with New Beginnings. Let me elaborate –

New Beginnings – The Rare Opportunity to Make it Right!

Life has closed a few doors and opened others for us, being blessing in disguise. We just don’t often recognize it.

For example, this morning, life gave you a beautiful gift of this new day. Many people who are on their last breath would give anything for such a miraculous gift β€” and yet, we most probably take this gift with any consideration or thoughts. Fritter it away. Complain about it.

We do not want to appreciate this unique opportunity that life has given us!

So being aware of this … how can we use this new normal as an opportunity and a blessing?

New Beginnings

Firstly, I would like to give a few instances where we faced difficulties and how it was turned it a great opportunity by all of us –

Making the most out of everything at hand.

  • There are so many people who have lost their lives during this COVID-19 pandemic.
  • At the same time, so many people have started taking care of themselves and started making good of their times.
  • Practices like meditation, yoga, and home workouts have widely increased among youth and older people.

With humans being stuck at their homes, the environment took a huge sigh of relief.

  • The environment got its break finally. In January 2020, the average AQI ( Air Quality Index ) was above 350.
  • And the current AQI of New Delhi is around 70. Coronavirus has helped reduce air pollution drastically.

People spending a good time with their family.

  • Many of us have started developing new habits and skills which they couldn’t earlier due to their busy schedule.

Reduction in Accidents

  • Since many people are not venturing out for work or unless very necessary from their homes, accidents have reduced by 35-50% in most parts of the world.

Thriving online businesses

  • Yes, many offline and other businesses were hugely impacted during the initial lockdown. But there are some which have flourished well; like Swiggy, BigBasket, Grofers and many more.

Social Media has Boosted Up

  • With people spending a lot of time at home, it has directly impacted the increase in the Social Media Active Users throughout various social media platforms. And on some platforms, it has doubled or tripled.
  • Do note, valuable content creators saw a huge boost in their numbers.

Be Productive – Train, Learn, Hustle!

This people of this generation were always of the opinion that they didn’t have the time in the world to achieve their goals, ambitions and pursue your dream/hustle/read a book/stay at home/ Or Work from Home.

We could definitely spend some time every week trying to work on them.

So who are we waiting for. Doors do not open for you sometimes or should I say always we should open doors or create path for ourselves for us to reach somewhere or achieve our dreams.

Concluding the New Normal…

Let’s put on our thinking caps and use these useful tips on how you can still make the most of this situation which is at least here to stay for some time until the end of this period.

So let’s not sit idle until then and start working. Do not set big goals, start with small goals and accordingly move to bigger ones.

Begin with organizing your cupboard or work table daily. On seeing some positive changes nearby you would be motivated to take on some big tasks.

Accordingly, you can always push your self to do some basic workouts to stay fit. Working out doesn’t have to be always with weights and at the gym. Working out at home has lots of benefits. Read more.

Also, never be of the thought that you are stuck always find good in every situation. No, do not be over optimistic. Take one challenge at a time and “World is Our Oyster”.

  1. I love the message of this post. Trying to find the positive in this situation is such a great way to deal with it, and take care of our mental health through it all. trying to focus on our blessings and opportunity for some self-discovery is so important. Thank you for sharing this.

  2. Well said. The problem is that the consequences will remain, many people won’t be able to relax after this. Instead, they might only await for the next global issue. Finger crossed we get this over with soon.

  3. Beautiful post and an apt title. COVID-19 has defintely brought in a new norm and it is up to us to make the most of it. Indeed it is a new beginning to a more constuctive and balanced life, of course only if we take conrete measures towards it.
